Die Casting or Permanent Die Casting is a general term, specifically divided into gravity casting, high pressure die casting and low pressure die casting

Die casting is the process of producing large quantities of precise, complex metal parts by injecting molten metal into a reusable mold, called a die, under high pressure, making it ideal for mass production of parts with consistent quality and tight tolerances;

Key points about die casting:

---High volume production: Due to the reusable mold, die casting allows for the rapid creation of many identical parts.

---Complex shapes: The process can produce intricate designs with fine details.

---Smooth surface finish: Die cast parts generally have a smooth surface appearance.

---Common materials: Metals like aluminum, zinc, magnesium, and copper are often used in die casting.

Applications of die casting:

---Automotive parts like engine components, gear housings, and transmission parts

---Electronic components like connectors and housings

---Appliance parts

---Hardware items like door handles and locks

Here are some key aspects of die casting:

Materials

The most common materials used in die casting are non-ferrous alloys like aluminum, magnesium, and zinc.

Molds

The molds, also known as dies or tools, are made of steel and are custom-designed for each project.

Process

The process involves: Preheating and coating the dies with a release agent Injecting molten metal into the die at high pressure Maintaining pressure while the metal solidifies Removing the part from the die

Gravity Die Casting

What¡¯s the difference between Pressure die casting and Gravity Die Casting?

There are significant differences between force casting and gravity casting in several aspects, the main differences are as follows:

Pressure casting

Working principle£ºpressure casting is under the action of high pressure, the liquid or semi-liquid metal filling die casting mold (die casting mold) cavity at a high speed, and forming and solidification under pressure to obtain the casting method.

Features:

‌ high pressure and high speed£ºin the process of die casting, the liquid metal filling speed is high, and the gas in the cavity is difficult to be completely removed, so the casting is prone to porosity and cracks, but the casting size is accurate and the surface finish is high.

‌ high degree of automation£ºdie-casting process is highly automated, high production efficiency, suitable for mass production.

‌ high mold requirements£ºdie casting mold structure is complex, high manufacturing cost, usually made of hardened steel, and need internal cooling channel fast heat dissipation.

‌ casting quality£ºcan manufacture high precision, high density and high strength castings, but the investment is large and the equipment is expensive.

Gravity casting

‌ Working principle£ºgravity casting refers to the process of metal liquid injection into the mold under the action of earth gravity, also known as casting. The metal liquid enters the mold through the gate, fills the cavity with its own weight and cools to solidify into the casting.

‌ Features:

‌ natural flow£ºthe metal liquid flow is slow, the cooling time is long, and the surface of the casting is easy to produce defects such as pores and inclusions, but the control difficulty of the metal flow is relatively small.

‌ low mold cost£ºGravity casting molds are usually made of cast iron, and the manufacturing cost is relatively low.

‌ casting weight range£ºsuitable for the manufacture of large weight castings, especially for the production of large aluminum alloy castings.

‌ production efficiency£ºAlthough the production efficiency of gravity casting is not as good as that of pressure casting, it has excellent casting performance, blank compactness and good casting directivity.

In summary, pressure casting and gravity casting have significant differences in working principle, characteristics, mold requirements, casting quality and scope of application. The choice of casting method should be based on the specific product demand, production conditions and economic benefits and other factors.
