Gear Profile and Design

Here are some equivalent material grades of 20CrMnTi in different standards:

1. ISO (International Organization for Standardization)

  • 20MnCr5 is quite similar. It has a comparable chemical composition and mechanical properties. The main alloying elements in both steels are manganese (Mn), chromium (Cr), and titanium (Ti), which contribute to hardenability, strength, and wear – resistance.

2. German Standard (DIN)

  • In the German DIN standard, 20MnCr5 is the equivalent grade. It is widely used in the automotive and machinery industries for components like gears and shafts, just like 20CrMnTi.

3. American Standard (AISI / SAE)

  • There isn’t a direct one – to – one equivalent, but steels like 5120H can be considered in the same general class. However, 5120H has a slightly different chemical composition, with less manganese compared to 20CrMnTi, and it may require some adjustment in heat treatment processes to achieve similar properties.

4. Japanese Standard (JIS)

  • SCM420H can be related. While not an exact match, it shares some similarities in terms of the alloying elements and can be used in similar applications after appropriate heat treatment to achieve comparable mechanical properties.

Investment casting, also known as lost wax casting, is a casting method in which a pattern is made of a melt-able material, then coated with several layers of refractory material to form a shell, and the pattern is melted away after high-temperature firing, and then the molten metal is poured into the shell.

Investment casting have high precision and high surface quality, with small machining allowances, which can achieve less or no machining requires. Investment casting can cast complex thin-walled parts with complex shapes (the minimum wall thickness can reach 0.25-0.4mm), and the smallest hole diameter can reach 2.5mm.
