316SS Investment Casting adds 2.0–3.0% molybdenum to the classic 18/8 stainless recipe, lifting resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and chlorides far beyond standard 304. The lost-wax route then shapes this grade into the compact, intricate components that pumps, valves and marine systems demand — with castings equivalent to CF8M and 1.4408 designations.

Common Questions

Is 316SS investment casting the same as CF8M or 1.4408?
Yes. 316SS is the familiar wrought-style name; CF8M is the ASTM A351 cast grade and 1.4408 the EN designation. All three describe the same molybdenum-bearing 18/10/2 chemistry.
Why choose 316SS over 304SS for castings?
The 2.0–3.0% molybdenum content substantially improves resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and chlorides — critical for seawater, chemical and bleaching service where 304 would rust or pit.
Can you control the magnetic response?
As-cast parts contain delta ferrite and show slight magnetism. Where the specification requires minimal magnetism (e.g., instrumentation), we adjust chemistry and heat treatment.
Do you offer low-carbon 316L-style castings?
Yes — we supply the CF3M / 1.4409 low-carbon variants when heavy welding or maximum intergranular corrosion resistance is required.
