What Is CF8 Stainless Steel?

CF8 Investment Casting produces the cast equivalent of wrought 304 stainless steel, defined under ASTM A351 with 18–21% chromium and 8–11% nickel. It offers excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability and strong low-temperature toughness — a cost-effective choice for general corrosive service across a wide range of industries.

Cr

Excellent Corrosion Resistance

Resists atmospheric corrosion, fresh water, mild acids and alkalis — dependable in general corrosive service.

High Strength & Toughness

Minimum 485 MPa tensile strength with outstanding impact toughness even at low temperatures.

Near-Net-Shape Precision

Investment casting delivers complex geometries with tight tolerances and smooth surface finish.

Full Traceability

Heat-lot traceability, chemical spectro analysis and mechanical test reports per batch.

CF8 Chemical Composition

Conforming to ASTM A351 / A351M. Single values are maximum percentages unless shown as a range.

CF8 vs CF8M — How to Choose

Both grades share the same strength levels. The deciding factor is the service media.

Our Investment Casting Process

A complete in-house lost-wax casting chain — from tooling design to finished, inspected parts.

1

Wax Pattern

Precision wax injection with low shrinkage for accurate replication of your part geometry.

2

Shell Building

Patterns assembled on runners, coated with multiple ceramic shell layers.

3

Dewax & Firing

Wax removed in autoclave; shells fired to gain strength before pouring.

4

Melting & Pouring

With spectro-verified chemistry, CF8 investment casting steel is melted and poured into preheated shells.

5

Knockout & Cut-off

Shell removal, runner cutting and gate grinding for clean part surfaces.

6

Heat Treatment

Solution annealing restores corrosion resistance and optimum mechanical properties.

7

Machining

CNC machining, surface grinding and thread cutting to final drawing tolerances.

8

Inspection & Delivery

Dimensional, hydrostatic, X-ray and material test reports before shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between CF8 and 304 stainless steel?
CF8 is the cast version of 304: the same 18% Cr / 8% Ni chemistry in casting form, produced under ASTM A351 with slightly adjusted element ranges. Mechanical properties are comparable to wrought 304 after solution annealing.
What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
No fixed MOQ for prototype or trial orders. Production quantities are quoted per part based on weight, complexity and finishing requirements.
Do you provide material test reports?
Yes. Chemical composition and mechanical test certificates are provided with every production batch, plus dimensional inspection reports and NDT records on request.
What surface finishes are available?
As-cast, sand-blasted, pickled & passivated, electropolished, or CNC-machined finishes — selected according to your application and specification.
